4 Ways to Boost Your Brain Power

Yes, it’s absolutely possible to boost your brain power.  Not only that, but boosting it on an ongoing basis is rather important.  Here are 4 effective ways.

1. Mental Workout

When you do particular things, you fuse certain connections in your mind.  That makes your brain stronger and sharper.  But you can stagnate if you just perform the same things over and over again.  So the key to a mental workout is doing some things with your brain you don’t always do.

This might mean reading types of books that are unfamiliar, doing a brain-teaser puzzle, exploring in the woods, talking with different types of people—anything novel.

2. Reduce Stress

Stress inhibits brain function.  In fact, chronic stress, over time, can actually damage brain structures. Therefore, trying to cut out stresses will enhance your brain power.  Naturally, it’s an important thing to do anyway.  Taking the time to resolve certain issues that may be causing you stress is more than worth it, particularly if you’ve felt the need for increased memory, mental sharpness, ability at work, etc.

While you’re making efforts to reduce stress, you may look for ways to give yourself an advantage, such as the calming effects of lavender tea or oat straw which reduces stress.

3. Be Curious

In a way that’s similar to the mental workouts, above, always questioning things and wanting to know the answers to life’s mysteries will juice up your mind.  Working over why things are the way they are not only forms many important connections in your brain, but keeps them going.

4. Drink Lots of Water

Huh?  Is water brain juice?  Well, there’s a very simple fact about water: it is necessary for electrochemical activity.  If your brain cells do something, it is facilitated by water.  Think of it as gas for your car.  There are varied studies out there linking water to higher concentration, higher test scores, and generally a better sense of well-being.

But, to come at it from a different angle, if you are dehydrated, your performance will suffer.  There is ample evidence to support this.

Now, some people are not completely on board with drinking a lot of water.  They enjoy having caffeine or various beverages, and it can be annoying to try to go through the effort to drink a liter of water a day.  Well, here’s a good compromise.  There are various nootropic drinks that are water based.  Brahmi herbal tea, for example, boosts energy and lowers stress—see above.  Ginkgo tea and green tea are also great water-based nootropics that will help your concentration and mental energy.
